We are made for the light of the cave and for twilight. Twilight is the time we see best. James Turrell
Light is a carrier of information, but what we see is appearance. Things leave their bare imprint in the stream of light, and our mind forms its image of the world from it. Space and objects shape light, light -and shadow- shape our view of spaces and things. The light art shown in this exhibition explores this interplay of space, material, and light in site-specific installations. It asks questions about texture and appearance and the conditions of human perception. Phenomena associated with light, such as absorption, reflection, refraction, or luminescence, become artistic material. In the Schlossbergstollen, this place of permanent twilight, the participating artists create a luminous microcosm, an in-between place "betwixt and between".
